Returning to a beginner's mind?
Do you ever wonder what the famous coaching skill of
I do โ as often as I can.
Today, while preparing lunch, I caught myself thinking: โI donโt know what the next step is.โ And the anxiety was already building in my stomach.
I sat down for a momentโฆ and a video appeared that reminded me of something simple and powerful:
The pressure I put on myself to โhave to knowโ blocks the creative path in my brain that already knows.
In the video, a two year old girl sings without hesitation. The people around her were curious โ maybe wondering if she could do it, maybe just thinking โhow cuteโ.
But she didnโt wonder. She didnโt question whether she could, whether she was capable, whether she was allowed. She simply did what she felt like doing in that moment.
She explored. She enjoyed every note, every movement. And she shifted the energy of the whole group.
That, to me, is beginnerโs mind. Returning to what moves you. Returning to curiosity. Looking at a situation from a different angle than the one your beliefs tell you it โshouldโ be.
As Nir Eyal beautifully said yesterday, even the word Be lie ve contains lie. Using his words:
โHow often do we lie to ourselves and call those lies beliefs? And what could happen if we chose a belief that actually works for us instead of limiting us?โ
In Spanish we use the word CREENCIA, which literally asks: What do I choose to believe in?
So I leave you with this question: Where are you placing your energy โ and therefore, your power?
In the meantime, take care โ and hydrate.
